Core Plot Summary
A young Swiss scientist, Victor Frankenstein, becomes obsessed with unlocking the secret of life. He animates a humanoid creature from stolen body parts, but is horrified by its appearance and abandons it. The creature, rejected by all humans, learns language and empathy in isolation before seeking revenge on Victor for leaving him to suffer. The novel unfolds as a frame narrative, told through letters from an Arctic explorer who rescues Victor as he chases his creation north.
