Core Plot Overview
Act 5 opens with Lady Macbeth unraveling under the weight of her guilt, sleepwalking and reliving the murders she helped orchestrate. Meanwhile, Macbeth, isolated in his castle, clings to the witches’ prophecies, dismissing warnings of approaching English and Scottish rebel forces. As the siege of Dunsinane Castle begins, Macbeth learns the prophecies have hidden, literal meanings that seal his fate. The act concludes with a final duel and the restoration of rightful rule in Scotland.
