The play opens in Thebes, where a deadly plague ravages the city. King Oedipus vows to find the murderer of the previous king, Laius, to end the curse. As he investigates, cryptic clues from prophets and witnesses slowly unravel a devastating truth: Oedipus himself killed Laius, his biological father, years earlier after a roadside argument.
