Core Plot Overview
The story opens 10 years after the Trojan War ends. Odysseus, king of Ithaca, is stranded on a remote island, trapped by the nymph Calypso. Back in Ithaca, his wife Penelope and son Telemachus fend off greedy suitors who have taken over their palace, assuming Odysseus is dead. With help from the goddess Athena, Telemachus sets out to find news of his father. Meanwhile, Zeus orders Calypso to release Odysseus, who faces a series of deadly obstacles—including a cyclops, a witch, and a sea monster—as he sails toward Ithaca. When he finally arrives, he disguises himself as a beggar to assess the situation, then teams up with Telemachus to kill the suitors and reclaim his throne.
